Gold price today 03/19/2025: 2 peaks in 1 day

On March 18 alone, domestic gold prices broke records twice to approach the threshold of 100 million VND/tael.

According to Kitco, the world gold price on March 19 recorded at 4:00 a.m. today, Vietnam time, was 3,031.79 USD/ounce. Today’s gold price increased by 1.2% compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (25,810 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 94.3 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is nearly 4 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

Gold prices rose 1% to a new record high, surpassing the $3,000 mark an ounce, Reuters reported. The reason was rising tensions in the Middle East and trade uncertainties due to US President Donald Trump’s tariff plans, increasing demand for this safe-haven asset.

Spot gold peaked at $3,038.26 an ounce. By 9:46 a.m. ET (13:46 GMT), prices had risen nearly 1% to $3,029.69 an ounce. This is the first time gold prices have surpassed the $3,000 mark since March 14. US gold futures also rose 1.05% to $3,038.00.

Gold had a very successful year last year and continued to maintain its growth momentum this year. Gold prices have increased more than 15% year to date and have reached a record high 14 times.

“We are seeing gold prices rise sharply today as safe-haven demand continues to rise, driven by renewed conflict in the Middle East, rising trade tensions and strong central bank buying,” said Jim Wyckoff, senior analyst at Kitco Metals.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has proposed a series of US tariff plans. These include a 25% flat tariff on steel and aluminum that went into effect in February, as well as reciprocal and sectoral tariffs that he said would be imposed on April 2.

Gold is traditionally seen as a safe haven during times of economic or geopolitical uncertainty.

Investors will now be closely watching the talks between President Trump and President Putin later in the day, where Trump is expected to push for a ceasefire in Ukraine. They will also be watching the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy meeting.

Traders expect the Fed to leave interest rates unchanged on Wednesday. However, they see a nearly 66% chance of a rate cut in June, according to CME Group’s FedWatch tool.

“If gold holds above $3,040, the next resistance level is expected to be $3,080 in an extreme scenario,” said Razan Hilal, market analyst at City Index.

Silver also rose 0.8% to $34.10 an ounce, after hitting its highest since late October.

“We could see more upside in silver in the coming weeks as it catches up with gold,” Wycoff said.

Platinum was steady at $1,000.30 and palladium rose 0.1% to $965.50.

At Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC), DOJI Group, Bao Tin Minh Chau all listed gold prices at VND 96.7 million/tael (buy) and VND 98.2 million/tael (sell). Today’s gold price increased by VND 1.9 million/tael in the buying direction – increased by VND 2.1 million/tael in the selling direction compared to the end of yesterday’s trading session.

At Mi Hong Jewelry Company, the SJC gold price was VND 97.5 million/tael for buying and VND 98.5 million/tael for selling. Thus, compared to yesterday’s session, the gold price increased by VND 100,000/tael in the buying direction – increased by VND 100,000/tael in the selling direction.

On the gold ring side, the price of gold rings at 96.6-98.1 million VND/tael (buy – sell) was also adjusted up 300,000 VND each way, setting a new historical peak. However, other major gold brands continued to raise the selling price of gold rings to 98.8 million VND/tael – the highest level ever recorded for this item on the market.
