Gold price today 04/10/2025: Rising, breaking new records

World gold prices today skyrocketed thanks to the demand for safe assets, partly due to concerns about the US Treasury bond market. Meanwhile, the selling price of gold bars and gold rings simultaneously increased sharply by 2.2-2.3 million VND/tael.

According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:00 a.m. today, Vietnam time, was at 3,083.17 USD/ounce. Today’s gold price increased by 2.35% compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (26,136 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 97.1 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 4.8 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

Gold prices rose more than 2%, supported by a weaker dollar and a flight to safe-haven assets amid geopolitical tensions. Spot gold rose 2.2% to $3,048.19 an ounce by 09:01 a.m. ET (1301 GMT). U.S. gold futures rose 2.5% to $3,065.40.

“Ultimately, gold is still seen as a hedge against uncertainty,” said Bart Melek, head of commodity strategy at TD Securities. “We have a situation where tariffs are a big issue, and inflation expectations are rising, which is reflected in higher yields.”

“As this trade situation continues to be an issue, I think over time, people will probably bet that the U.S. dollar will become less dominant in global trade,” Melek added.

The dollar index (.DXY) fell 1% against its rivals, making gold more attractive to holders of other currencies.

Investors worried that tariffs will fuel inflation and hamper economic growth have dumped stocks and industrial commodities and sought refuge in gold as a safe haven. Gold, used as a safe-haven investment during times of political and financial uncertainty, has risen more than $400 in 2025 and hit a record high of $3,167.57 on April 3, helped by strong safe-haven demand and central bank buying.

Investors are now awaiting the minutes of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting later in the day for further clarity on the path of interest rate cuts. In addition, the US consumer price index is scheduled to be released on Thursday.

Traders are pricing in a 55% chance of a rate cut in May, according to the CME Fedwatch Tool. Non-yielding bullion tends to thrive in a low-interest-rate environment.

Elsewhere, silver rose 1.4% to $30.26 an ounce, platinum fell 0.6% to $915.59 and palladium fell 1.1% to $897.14.
