USD increases against Euro after Germany’s vote on strong spending increase.
USD exchange rate today on the world market
The Dollar Index (DXY), measuring the USD against 6 major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), stopped at 103.49 – up 0.17 VND compared to the session on 18/03/2025.
The USD inched up against the Euro as the German parliament approved a strong spending increase plan and as the Federal Reserve (Fed) began its March policy meeting, which could reveal the path of US interest rates.
The euro fell 0.2% to $1.0915, after hitting a session high of $1.0954, its strongest since Oct. 10. “It’s a classic ‘buy the rumor, sell the news’ reaction, which isn’t surprising,” said Michael Brown, senior research strategist at Pepperstone. “The dollar has been rising in recent trading against most other currencies anyway, which is helping to fuel the euro’s decline.”

The German parliament’s approval of a massive spending plan breaks with decades of conservative fiscal policy, in hopes of reviving economic growth and boosting military spending for a new era of collective European defense.
The euro had gained earlier in the session after data showed German investor sentiment improved more than expected in March.
Overall, moves in currency markets were largely muted as potential factors such as the German vote, developments on a possible Russia-Ukraine peace deal and policy announcements from major central banks in the coming days kept traders cautious.
While analysts expect the Fed to keep its monetary policy stance unchanged amid persistent inflation concerns, investors will be watching for fresh economic projections from Fed officials for clues on how US monetary policymakers view the potential impact of the Trump administration’s policies.
“I think the Summary of Economic Projections (SEP) will be the most interesting aspect, with near-term inflation expectations likely to be revised slightly higher and growth forecasts slightly lower, although the confidence behind those projections will be uncertain given the changing macroeconomic outlook,” Brown said.
The greenback hit a two-week high against the yen as investors awaited the outcome of the Bank of Japan’s (BOJ) policy meeting on Wednesday. The dollar rose 0.3% to 149.65 yen.
BOJ policymakers are expected to discuss the extent of the risk posed to the Japanese economy by the escalating trade war between the United States and Japan.
“We expect this adjustment in the final rate pricing to be sustained after the BOJ meeting,” said Lee Hardman, senior currency analyst at MUFG, referring to market expectations that have risen from around 0.90% at the end of 2024 to near 1.20%.
Markets will also be watching for developments on a possible Russia-Ukraine peace deal, which would be positive for the common European currency. The Kremlin said on Tuesday that President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump would hold a phone call between 13:00 and 15:00 GMT.
In other developments, the Australian dollar fell 0.5% to $0.6352 after hitting a near one-month high on Monday.
Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, fell 2.5% to $81,878.
